Shape Owl Craft

Owl Babies: Candlewick Storybook AnimationsWe have borrowed the book Owl Babies from the library multiple times now.  It is such a sweet, simple book, and my daughter seems to relate to it well.

The last time we borrowed it, we also made a shape owl!  I had made an owl valentine for my husband earlier this year, and this was based on the valentine.  I have a thing for owls, and years ago I taught a class called "Who Puked" where we learned about owls and dissected owl pellets.  (The class title was geared to make middle schoolers interested!)

I choose to make the shape owl using mostly hearts, but you could use just triangles or circles or a combination of triangles, hearts, and an oval for the body.

For the details of how to create your own Shape Owl Craft or an Owl Valentine's Day Card made from hearts, visit us at This Simple Home.

What a good idea to make the owl from shapes!

How fun! I wonder if my kids would actually make an owl, or if it'd end up something else. I know they made heart monsters one time.

So cute! We love that book too. We made paper bag owls last fall and read a few owl books that we loved, including the one you mentioned. I am having a mind block right now but there is a super cute picture book that features different animals made out of shapes - mostly hearts I think. Grrrr, it is going to drive me crazy. I'm going to try to figure it out now.

What would we do without Google? The book is My Heart is Like a Zoo by Michael Hall, and here is the Amazon link:

It's a great book and I have always thought it would be perfect for a stArt project!

Owl babies is a favorite here as well. I love using different voices for the baby owls when reading it aloud. Such a cute craft...I'll have to remember it for Valentines Day.

Super Cute! My mother used to love owls too (she even once had them stenciled on her kitchen ceiling haha). I'll have to see if our library has that book.
