Children's Board Bible Reviews

This week Live, Learn, Love is reviewing children's Bibles!  We'll share some of our own, along with some provided by publishers.  We're excited to offer a couple of giveaways, too!  You can read the introduction here.
Lift-the-Flap Bible [Book]*Lift the Flap Bible is perfect for toddlers and preschoolers with simple stories and over 40 flaps for children to open.  This board book has fourteen stories in it, and 6 of them are about Jesus or parables he told.  Written by Sally Lloyd Jones (author of the Jesus Storybook Bible), the language in this Bible is simple, yet engaging.  Each story is just one or two paragraphs long.  The illustrations and flaps in this Bible are engaging and nice.  We have used this Bible for nearly a year and like it.

Amazon price: $0.74 (used, no new available), published by Reader's Digest.
Outstanding feature: With 14 stories, this is a good introduction to the Bible for a young child.  The stories are simple enough for toddlers, while still engaging enough for a 3 or 4 year old.  The illustrations and flaps are clever and cute.

Product: My Favorite Bible Storybook For Little Ones (With Handle) Image*My Favorite Bible Storybook for Little Ones was our very first children's Bible since it was a baby shower gift.  The handle and Velcro clasp made this especially popular with our oldest child (though the clasp is no longer there).  The text in amazing in the way the author, Fuzz Garland, sums up ten popular Bible stories in just a few sentences each.  The short stories and beautiful pictures pair up to make this a great choice as an introductory Bible.
Amazon price: $9.95, published by Spirit Press
Outstanding feature: Well-written, concise stories with great illustrations make the inside of this Bible combined with the Velcro and handle, and this is a great choice for a Bible for a young child.

The Dreamy, Fishy, Happy Bible Storybook (End Series the)The Dreamy, Fishy, Happy Bible Storybook, written by Allia Zobel Nolan and illustrated by Nadine Wickenden is a rhyming board book with lift-the-flaps with every story.  From the Standard stories like Noah and Jesus' birth are included in these six stories.  Jacob's dream and Moses and the pharaoh are also included which is rare, from our experience, in a book like this.  The illustrations and rhyming text are intriguing to young children.  The recommended age for this Bible is 3 and up, but my almost 2 year old is definitely interested, though the stories are a bit above his head still.  From the title you might have guessed that Jacob's dream was included before I told you with the word "dreamy".  The other references are Jesus feeding 5,000 (fishy), and Jesus death and resurrection is the reference to "happy."  Of the six stories, Noah is the only one that has more that has more than one lift-the-flap.  The other five stories' flaps are done quite effectively, but if you have a child who can't get enough flaps, they could be disappointed.
Amazon price: $9.99 (pre-order price), published by Zonderkidz
Outstanding feature: This Bible has two stories that are not included in most board Bibles.  The title lets children know that this is a fun and happy Bible.  The illustrations are sometimes silly and sometimes serious, but always well-done.

*Notes that these Bibles are our own and were not provided by the publisher.

It's so hard to pick a good Bible story book for preschoolers, that is engaging, but still detailed - thanks for these reviews!

Hmmmm...... Did I respond yet? I don't know. Those are interesting looking ones. I struggle on board books, because there's some my kids are still interested in, but I'm trying to teach them they're too old for them (just don't want the extra mess).
