Last week we finished reading The Classic Storybook Bible. I really felt that my 4 year old learned a lot from these stories. No, not all stories were included, but it is very well-written, by Kenneth Taylor. I definitely recommend it! (We're now reading the Jesus Story Book Bible which is also excellent...and all stories point to Jesus! This is our first time reading it straight through, though we've read most of it here and there.)
M seems to be reading a lot more on her own. She's willing to read words and some sentences to us from books, though she doesn't want to read BOB Books to me right now. (I think she doesn't want the responsibility of having to read the entire book on her own.) I'm sharing here about some books that she was able to help read...but please don't think I'm just sharing to brag, though I'm very pleased and surprised.
From the library, I have been amazed at how much she can read from Go, Dog. Go! (this may be familiar because of school though) and a Sesame Street book called It's Not Easy Being Big. She is somehow reading long vowel words, though some are words that are familiar from other books, and memorized instead of sounded out. She seriously read the whole book of Time to Sleep, Sheep the Sheep to herself (I was in the kitchen) until she got to the end where she couldn't read the word "checkers." Granted, the book is extremely repetitive, and the pictures help with the animal names. I am loving the simple words of Mo Willems and his ability to create a fabulous story that is another great beginning reader book (though some are more complicated, too). As much as I write about Willems, we need to get some of these books for our own library!
The great thing about all of the easy readers above is that our 2 year old is just as interested in them as our 4 year old!

My daughter has been asking to make butter slime. With a very successful
second and third tries (not first), we thought we'd share this butter slime
recipe...

We love Mo Willems! Go Dog Go is a favorite in our house too! Isn't it great to see your child interested in reading?
How awesome for her to be reading so well, and such fun books, too!
That is exciting! Thank goodness for Mo Willems. He gives the beginning reader genre a little pizzaz with the addition of his books.
That's one Bible story book we DON'T have! (I would surely add it to our collection if I were to ever run across it!) Congratulations on your daughter's reading success! It's very exciting when things begin to take off. I am not very familiar with many easy readers (we mostly have I Can Read books, and then my oldest started in on chapter books), so I appreciate the recommendations!
Thanks for linking up to RAT!
My 4 year old is starting to get really into Dr Seuss so I will definitely have to look out for Go Dog Go!
It's so much fun when they start reading on their own!
Go Dog Go is one of the first books my daughter read! It's a favorite in our house =)
Mo Willems books are favorites here as well! How exciting that M is reading so much on her own. Thanks for joining WMCIR!
We just checked out a bunch of Mo Willems, including Go to Sleep! T has been all over "I Love My New Toy!" by willems. I love hearing him read the punctuation clues, like getting louder as the font increases.
