A Happy Mom

The Complete Little House Nine-Book SetIf you read with any sort of regularity, you know how I like children's books-especially ones that give a bit of historical insight.

Recently I have been listening to the Little House on the Prairie series in the car.  I borrow the CD's from the library.  When we traveled during December we listened to Farmer Boy.  Then we moved on to On the Banks of Plum Creek.  I was absolutely thrilled when M and I got in the car (on the way to the library) and she asked if we could listen to more Laura and Mary!!  Now she is even calling it Little House on the Prairie.

Dance at Grandpa's (My First Little House)Though I read the pictures book based on this series to her a bit, I didn't know that she was really enjoying the audio books, especially since she doesn't get to hear all of the books.  I am just thrilled.  In a couple more years I will read to her the actual series.  I purchased it from Scholastic back when I was teaching.  I thought the price was good...and I was hoping to have a girl to share it with.  (We don't find out the sex of our babies until birth.  It's exciting that way.)

I am so excited about this and just wanted to share!  Oh, and if you are interested, the audio books are excellent.  I love the way Cherry Jones tells the stories!

  1. It's so enjoyable when our children connect to the stories we love! I've eyed those picture books but wasn't sure if I should go that route or just wait until the kids are old enough to appreciate the original stories. Sounds like they have been a useful tool to you though.

    How very fun!

  2. These--all of them--have been an obsession at our house! (I've blogged about this obsession many times.). My girls have spent hours in imaginative play as Laura and Mary. Good times!

  3. I like Cherry Jones' voice. I can't wait to read these books again. :) I actually tried to start reading Big Woods with the boys a year or two ago, but they weren't that interested - or maybe it was that I was so grossed out. I didn't remember how much killing and slaughtering (of animals) went on - ha! I hadn't thought about getting them on audiobook...
