Read Alouds

Frosty the SnowmanI have really been enjoying sharing some of the books we're reading, and I hope you enjoy reading about them!

Frosty the Snowman by Jack Collins and Steve Nelson has been my son's favorite book this week.  We have read it no less than once a day.  I truly think it's because of the bold illustrations by Richard Cowdery.  The text is simple: it is the Frosty song that many of us know and love.  (Musical notes are included in front and back, but they cannot help me to sing it on key.)

The Alphabet Book (Pictureback(R))The Alphabet Book by P.D. Eastman has been another popular book with my son.  Our copy is old and used.  I like this for a very basic alphabet book because it's just "A American ants".  Since there is no story throughout the book, you can really look at the letters and say them without interrupting the plot.

Days with Frog and Toad (I Can Read, Level 2)Days with Frog and Toad by Arnold Lobel was a much-enjoyed "chapter" book with my daughter, age 4.  It's a typical Frog and Toad book.  My favorite story was "Alone."  Frog wanted some time to himself.  He went off and sat on an island.  Toad went looking for him...and then they were alone together.

Those have been the popular books!  Something I don't think I have shared before is that only I read to my daughter the chapter books.  When my husband tucks M in (every other night) he will read a picture book to her.  Once we read "real" chapter books, I will definitely appreciate that so I don't miss out on the story!

Hi Annette,
Just wanted you to know that I think your email got hacked. I received an email from you this morning saying you'd been mugged in the UK and could I please wire you money.... Just thought you'd want to know...

I'm impressed you can post while you're in Great Britain broke with no passport :)

I love Frog and Toad books too. My kids usually like them.

Yep, I received an email too and came here to let you know.

Well, I was coming to let you know the same thing! ;)

I loved Frog and Toad as a child, so I still have a couple of those books waiting on the shelf for when my little boy can enjoy them. Part of me wants to say I can't wait till he listens and reads chapter books, but the rest of me knows I've got to enjoy EVERY stage!! :)

Frosty the Snowman is ALWAYS a hit around here.

BTW, I know M & Bookworm1 are the same age and are enjoying the same story lengths these days. We just discovered the Poppleton (Pig) books and REALLY like them! If you are looking for something along the lines of Frog & Toad, you might want to check those out.

I received the email too and I had never heard of the scam until I emailed Ticia and Natalie asking them if they got the email. I felt terrible about not being able to send you $1800. I did think it was a bit weird though. Anyway, I'm glad you weren't mugged in London.

I thought I'd drop in and ask you about your London vacation, but I see others have beaten me to it. :)

Well, Annette, it sounds like you've been busy lately. ;-)

You know, I've never seen that Frosty book or that PD Eastman title. And believe it or not, we haven't spent a whole lot of time with Frog and Toad, either. I really need to remedy that, but it's sort of like my older dd took off reading before she could fully appreciate some of the beginning readers (which I had saved for her to read herself). Maybe I'll give them another go with dd2 when she gets there.

So glad you linked up this week!

Yay, I am glad that your blog is back and you solved the problem. Frog and Toad are popular here too. Thanks for joining WMCIR!

We love Frog and Toad! My son also just brought home Lobel's Mouse Soup from school. We enjoyed that one, too.

We used to read one chapter book at a time with my husband and I alternating each night but we were missing half the story! So now we each have a chapter book to read on our nights. It works out much better!
